EARTH DAY 1970

LIGHTFOOT PERFORMS AT FIRST EARTH DAY CONCERT
by Wayne Francis

In March of 1970, Lightfoot was on the bill, with the Original cast from "Hair", in Ann Arbor, MI for the first Earth Day concert. Lightfoot introduced the newly written Doomsday Song, by saying he wrote it for just this occassion. He playe an 11 song set, backed by his band of Red Shea and Rick Haynes. Also of note, was the then brand new Summer Side Of Life, which consisted originally of 5 verses and a much different calypso-like guitar style played by Lightfoot, than appeared on the recording made later that year. The setlist was as follows:

Summer Side Of Life
Black Day In July
Sit Down Young Stranger
If I Could
Softly
Bossman
The Doomsday Song
Mountains And Maryann
Steel Rail Blues
Canadian Railroad Trilogy
Early Morning Rain
